UEFA Launches Formal Proceedings Concerning Chelsea's Pedro Neto After Push Involving Paris St-Germain Stadium Attendant.

Pedro Neto signed for Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2024.

UEFA has commenced a disciplinary case against Chelsea winger the Portuguese international following an incident where he shoved a sideline assistant during the Champions League defeat against Paris St‑Germain.

The 26-year-old, Neto, knocked the attendant in stoppage time of Wednesday's last-16 fixture in Paris – a match in which his team suffered a 5-2 – which caused the boy to fall off a chair.

The incident triggered a heated exchange between the opposing squads.

Uefa said the case has been opened against Neto on grounds of "unsporting behaviour" in accordance with UEFA's code.

"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will make a ruling regarding this matter at a later date," UEFA announced.

The Chelsea player expressed regret over his actions and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" while he was attempting to regain possession of the match ball.

"This is out of character for me. It was in the heat of the moment and I sincerely apologise. My shirt was given to him. I feel terrible about it - I feel I have to apologise to him," Neto explained to the media.

"I have limited French, and [Portugal team-mate] Vitinha came over and explained to him that it was a momentary lapse.

"Eventually he accepted the apology and I gave him my shirt apologising repeatedly. He understood the context of the incident and was satisfied with the outcome."

Chelsea face PSG in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, after Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in the Premier League.
